GLASGOW GROUP HISTORY - THE 60SThe next 5 years saw the Group exhibit annually* in the Mclellan Galleries , Glasgow. ( *NOTE- uninterrupted until 1989 )
In 1961 , the Group held its' first show outwith Scotland in the AIA gallery , London. During 1964 , non-members were invited to show with the Group The title of that Young Glasgow Group annual exhibition was 20 PAINTERS , a similar exhibition took place in 1965. The Group decided to drop the word 'Young' from its' title in 1966 settling on a final title of GLASGOW GROUP. For its' first 9 years GLASGOW GROUP was without funding of any kind , however in 1967 the local council GLASGOW CORPORATION helped the Group to extend its' exhibition to two weeks ( previous exhibitions being 1 week in duration. ) Further financial support for the Group was forthcoming from the SCOTTISH ART COUNCIL in 1969. 1964In 1964 a policy of inviting non-members to exhibit in the annual exhibition as INVITED ARTISTS was inaugurated and at this time it was also decided to drop the "Young".
