GLASGOW GROUP HISTORY - THE 60S

The next 5 years saw the Group exhibit annually* in the Mclellan Galleries , Glasgow.

( *NOTE- uninterrupted until 1989 )

In 1961 , the Group held its' first show outwith Scotland in the AIA gallery , London.

During 1964 , non-members were invited to show with the Group

The title of that Young Glasgow Group annual exhibition was 20 PAINTERS , a similar exhibition took place in 1965.

The Group decided to drop the word 'Young' from its' title in 1966 settling on a final title of GLASGOW GROUP.

For its' first 9 years GLASGOW GROUP was without funding of any kind , however in 1967 the local council GLASGOW CORPORATION helped the Group to extend its' exhibition to two weeks ( previous exhibitions being 1 week in duration. )

Further financial support for the Group was forthcoming from the SCOTTISH ART COUNCIL in 1969.

1964

In 1964 a policy of inviting non-members to exhibit in the annual exhibition as INVITED ARTISTS was inaugurated and at this time it was also decided to drop the "Young". The title "Glasgow Group" has remained in use since that date.
