click for catalogue The passage of time almost always bears witness to a change of personel in any organisation and the Glasgow Group has been no exception. From its inception in 1957 with 13 members the Glasgow Group by 1982's 25th Anniversary Exhibition had seen at one time or another a varying membership which over this period totalled 32 artists To celebrate this landmark in the Group's history it was decided to show for the first time work by all members,past and present. In addition , Benno Schotz the Honorary President of the Glasgow Group and Sculptor in Ordinary to Her Majesty The Queen in Scotland exhibited as special guest.

Members who did not exhibit : Mary Armour and Ronald Birrell

In 1989 the Glasgow Group pioneered the use of the Tramway as a visual arts venue and set up their own gallery, Glasgow Group Gallery at 17 Queens Crescent, Glasgow (1989-92), and during 1990 when Glasgow was European City of Culture, the group curated eleven exhibitions which included Welsh, Norwegian, and Basque artists and mounted an exhibition in Bilbao, Spain Top of The 80s Contact: glasgowgrp@yahoo.co.uk |
